Melbourne has decided to ban hire scooters following growing safety concerns. City councillors voted 6-4 to remove the scooters immediately, with operators Lime and Neuron given 30 days to comply. The decision comes after reports of accidents, including serious injuries and even fatalities, linked to the scooters. Despite the companies' efforts to improve safety, including plans for AI cameras, the city council opted to follow the "Paris option" and ban them altogether. This ban also raises questions about the environmental benefits that the scooters brought to the city.
